ASEAN+3 Youth Festival, Hanoi City, VN

I was given a great honor to attend ASEAN+3 Youth Festival and 1000 year’s anniversary of Than Long
(Hanoi) in Hanoi City, Vietnam, from October 5-9, 2010. I went there as a delegate with four other
people including one representative from the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. All Cambodian delegates were sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Cambodia.

The festival was organized by Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. It was solemnly attended by 10
ASEAN countries plus China, Korea and Japan.

As delegates, we were warmly welcomed by Vietnamese youth and people. They were standing on both
sides of the road waving to us, cheering for us and touching our hands. It was so exciting. Though the
place was crowded, there were still seats reserved for us.

There were two main parts in the festival. The first one was cultural exhibition. Each country was
required to bring their own stuff for decorating and doing exhibition as booths were provided with the
attractive images as the background. The second part was the cultural performance. The delegates had to
perform some types of demonstration peculiar to other countries. For Cambodia, we performed a type of
traditional dance ‘Rom Vong.’

Apart from that, we attended main activities of Hanoi Youth Union in the celebration of Great 1000 years
anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi. The organizers also took us to many famous places located in the
center of Hanoi. It was the biggest festival of the year.

One participant said “Vietnam is a country, not a war.” I strongly agree with this as I witness by my own eyes. The people are friendly and helpful. I was so excited by the culture. I tell my relatives and friend to visit Vietnam if they can make it because fascinating culture is out there…
